"One of the most important this to remember is that when we see someone who is in a wheelchair or differently-abled, we shouldn’t be looking upon them with pity. We should just try to remember that everyone is brought into this world for a reason – to teach us and to bless us. It’s our job to figure out what those blessings are.”
-Jan Stoker, Spencer’s mother
Jan Stoker works at Two Degrees, a team of financial, information technology, business development, consulting and recruiting professionals. Two Degrees is more than Jan’s employer, however – it’s her extended family. And when Jan’s son, Spencer, passed away last Spring, the Two Degrees family acted immediately to create a fund in his memory.
More than $20,000 has been raised, and Northwest Center is using that money to build a sensory garden at our Child Development Program, where Spencer stayed while his parents were at work. As a result, Spencer’s classmates , and many future classes of children, will be able to enjoy the sights and smells of a beautiful garden.
